Current Status:

Neil Cockburn specializes in providing business advisory services to owner-managed businesses and to not-for-profit organizations. These services include accounting, auditing, tax planning for corporations and individuals, assistance with financing, new business start-up, business purchase or sale and exit planning strategies, including estate planning and preparation of terminal and estate tax returns.

He also is involved in audits of public companies on the Canadian Venture Exchange and reporting issuers to the Alberta Securities Commission. He has particular experience in providing services to medical and health professionals, to real estate developers and investors and to registered charitable organizations.

Neil is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP). He has served as a facilitator for professional development courses through the Provincial Institutes of Chartered Accountants, serves on the DFK Canada Professional Standards Committee and the DFK International Assurance Services Committee. He also is a quality control and concurring review partner for assurance services at KRP. He often volunteers for task forces and discussion groups on technical accounting and assurance issues in the CA profession.

  • Advised on structure and tax issues in client’s finances for a purchase of recreational development land.
  • Advised beneficiary of a large estate on the transfer/acquisition of real estate holding company and operating company from the estate
  • Advised on tax effective strategies for transfer of assets and settlements in divorce proceedings
  • Advised in numerous situations involving the transition or sale of companies to long term employees
  • Provided advice to numerous registered charities on GST, donations, fund raising, cash flow forecasting and other issues
  • Advised on numerous creditor-proofing strategies involving set up of holding companies and separation of assets from operations.
  • Advised both vendors and purchaser about shareholder buyouts or tax effective strategies
